Food Handling Certification
All food handlers are required by San Diego County Code to possess a valid food handler card issued by a county-approved food handler training school or a County of San Diego food handler test administered by the current food safety manager who passed a state-approved food safety certification exam.
Food Handler cards are valid for 3 years.
To renew your card, you must complete a full 3 hour training course and pass an exam provided by a county-authorized food handler training school.
If you lose your card during the 3 years since you passed the exam, you must contact the training school to purchase a replacement card or you must retake a full 3 hour training course and pass the exam again to be issued a new food handler card.
