Phlebotomy Full Course (Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT1)

This 6-8 week short-term course is designed for individuals with no experience. All applicants are required to possess a minimum high school education.

The course consists of four modules:

  1. 20 hours of theoretical instruction in basic phlebotomy
  2. 20 hours of theoretical instruction in advance phlebotomy
  3. 40 hours of practical laboratory
  4. 40 – 120 hours of clinical practical or internship

At the conclusion of the clinical internship, students are allowed to sit for the national certifying exam and must score a minimum passing grade of 70%.

Upon completion the following documents must be submitted to California Department of Public Health (CDPH):

1.     Copy of certificate of completion of phlebotomy training from a state-approved institution (this document is issued by the school)
2.     Copy of certificate of completion of clinical training (internship)
3.     Official sealed transcripts from high school, college or GED equivalent (these documents are provided by educational institution)
4.     Copy of national examination certificate

Certified Phlebotomy Technician
(Abbreivated Course)

This course is designed for individuals with 6 months or more experience.

After submission of the above-required documents, students are now eligible to apply online to CDPH for the state issued phlebotomy license at http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/lfs/Pages/ClinicalLaboratoryPersonnel.aspx.
